Khulna city Jamaat Ameer and 5 others arrested; Jamaat Ameer demands immediate release

Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami’s Ameer Maqbul Ahmad has issued the following statement on 8 May 2019 protesting and condemning the unjustified arrest of Jamaat’s central working committee member and Khulna city Jamaat Ameer Maulana Abul Kalam Azad and 5 others on last 6 May.

“Police has unjustifiably arrested Maulana Abul Kalam Azad and 5 other Jamaat activists as a part of the conspiracy of the government to destroy the leadership of Jamaat-e-Islami. I am vehemently condemning the incident.

Since the beginning of the holy month of Ramadan, the government has started crackdown against the leaders and activists of Jamaat-e-Islami. But they are supposed to stop such repression considering the solemnity of this sacred month. The authority should ensure a congenial atmosphere so that everybody can observe fasting properly. But instead of doing so, the government is conducting arrest drive and oppression against the Jamaat leaders and activists. These incidents of crackdown are exposing the anti-Islamic face of the government. I am urging the countrymen to raise voice against the misrule of the incumbent government.

Finally, I am calling upon the concerned authorities to stop repression at once and also to release all the detained leaders and activists of Jamaat-e-Islami including Maulana Abul Kalam Azad immediately.
