Jamaat Ameer urges to perform prayer seeking protection from cyclone Fani; put emphasizes on all out preparations

Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami’s Ameer Maqbul Ahmad has issued the following statement on 2nd May, 2019 urging to perform prayers and other rituals seeking protection from Almighty Allah from the destruction of cyclone Fani and urging the concerned departments of the government, affluent quarters and the manpower of Jamaat-e-Islami to get prepared for tackling any situation.

“The met office already informed that Cyclone Fani, which turned into a “very severe cyclonic storm”, is likely to make landfall in India’s Odisha this afternoon and affect southwestern Bangladesh.

Coastal districts in Bangladesh’s southwest including Chittagong, Noakhali, Laxmipur, Feni, Chandpur, Barguna, Bhola, Potuakhali, Barisal, Pirojpur, Jhalkathi, Bagerhat, Khulna and Satkhira are feared to be affected by the “peripheral” effect of Fani. The cyclone is likely to cause five- to six-feet high storm surges in the coastal area. Such an assumption of the met office indicates that severe casualties may be taken place due to this disaster.

In this backdrop, Jamaat Ameer stated that all the disasters and calamities are coming from the authority of Almighty Allah. As He said in the Quran, Be sure we shall test you with something of fear and hunger, some loss in goods or lives or the fruits (of your toil) (Sura Baqarah: Verse 155). But these adversities are not beyond men’s capacity. So, we have no alternative but seeking protection from Almighty Allah from such natural catastrophe.

Almighty Allah further says in the Quran Nay, seek ((Allah)'s) help with patient perseverance and prayer: It is indeed hard, except to those who bring a lowly spirit. (Sura Baqarah: Verse 45). Jamaat Ameer under circumstances, urges the countrymen to perform special prayer after tomorrow’s Friday prayer both individually and collectively.

He also put emphasis on working unitedly to replace the coastal area’s residents into a safer zone. Besides, storage of necessary food items and other essentials are also required. Because of the constitutional obligations, the government along with all of its departments have the liabilities to take stand by the side of the affected people. He also called upon the affluent sections to remain prepared to tackle the post-cyclone situations and adversities.
