Police arrests 6 Jamaat and Chhatrashibir members from Rangpur; Rafiqul Islam Khan demands immediate release

Assistant Secretary General of Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami, Maulana Rafiqul Islam Khan has issued the following statement on 8 April 8, 2019 protesting and condemning the unjust arrest of 6 Jamaat and Chhatrashibir activists from Rangpur including Rangpur city Jamaat’s working committee member and Rangpur city unit Sramik Kollan Federation’s President Advocate Md. Kawsar Ali.

“The government has arrested 6 Jamaat and Chhatrashibir activists from Rangpur including Rangpur city Jamaat’s working committee member and Rangpur city unit Sramik Kollan Federation’s President Advocate Md. Kawsar Ali in order to attain its ill political interest. I am condemning the incident.

The government is unlawfully arresting the leaders and activists of the opposition quarters, particularly of Jamaat-e-Islami and Chhatrashibir in order to facilitate its one-party rule. The government is trying to linger its office by abusing the state apparatus. But the countrymen are really aggrieved and victimized by the incumbent authoritarian regime. I am calling upon the countrymen to raise voice against the torture and repressions of the government.

Finally, I am urging the concerned authorities to release all detained leaders and activists of Rangpur city Jamaat-e-Islami and Chhatrashibir including Advocate Md. Kawsar Ali immediately.
