Maulana Anwarul Islam and 16 other Jamaat leaders and activists arrested from Dinajpur; Secretary General condemns

Secretary General of Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami, Dr. Shafiqur Rahman has issued the following statement on 23 March 2019 protesting and condemning the unjustified arrest of 16 leaders and activists of Dinajpur district Jamaat-e-Islami including its Dinajpur south organizational Ameer Maulana Anwarul Islam.

"Police have unjustifiably arrested 16 leaders and activists of Dinajpur district Jamaat-e-Islami including Dinajpur south organizational district Ameer Maulana Anwarul Islam in order to attain ill political vengeance of the government.

Police arrested them from Birampur of the district and since then local officer-in-charge has been accusing them of planning for creating anarchy. Actually they are making this propaganda to implicate these innocent leaders and activists with false cases. But the people do not believe such false campaign. The consequences of such false campaign and repression would never be positive.

Under the circumstances, I am calling upon the concerned authorities to stop such oppression and false propaganda against Jamaat-e-Islami activists and to release all the detained leaders including Maulana Anwarul Islam immediately.
