Kurigram district Jamaat Ameer and 15 others sent to jail; Professor Mujib demands immediate release

Nayeb-e-Ameer of Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami and former lawmaker Professor Mujibur Rahman has issued the following statement on 4 March 2019 expressing deep concern as Kurigram district Jamaat Ameer Maulana Abdul Matin Faruqi, Secretary Maulana Nizam Uddin and 15 other leaders and activists have been sent to jail despite they had secured bail from the High Court.

“I am expressing deep concern as Kurigram district Jamaat Ameer Maulana Abdul Matin Faruqi, Secretary Maulana Nizam Uddin and 15 other leaders and activists have been sent to jail despite they had secured bail from the High Court.

They appeared before the court as lawful citizens of the country. But the government sent them to the jail and as such they have shown utmost disrespect towards the High Court. Such a role from the authority is really regrettable.

I am urging the concerned authorities to show due respect towards the High Court order and to release all the detained leaders and activists of Kurigram district Jamaat-e-Islami including district Ameer Maulana Abdul Matin Faruqi and Secretary Maulana Nizam Uddin immediately.
