Opposition alliance’s candidate for Jhinaidah-3 constituency and his wife arrested; Professor Mujib condemns

Government backed media is trying to demean Jamaat-e-Islami and its leaders

Nayeb-e-Ameer of Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami and former lawmaker Professor Mujibur Rahman has issued the following statement on 26 December 2018 condemning the arrest of 20 party alliance’s candidate for Jhinaidah-3 constituency Professor Matiar Rahman along with his wife and simultaneously protesting the false and baseless propaganda of ruling Awami League leaders as they are accusing Jamaat-e-Islami of propagating against Bangladesh Army.

“The fascist government has been plotting conspiracy to foil the upcoming election and as a part of the same conspiracy, the law enforcers have arrested 20 party alliance’s candidate for Jhinaidah-3 constituency Professor Matiar Rahman along with his wife and simultaneously Awami League leaders are conducting ill-propaganda against Jamaat-e-Islami. I am vehemently protesting and condemning these incidents.

Professor Matiar Rahman is a very popular leader. The government has become fearful because of his popularity and arrested him along with his wife in order to grab his parliamentary seats unlawfully.

This fascist government has no public support. If election takes fairly, their defeat is inevitable. Realizing such reality, the law enforcement agencies, in one side are arresting the opposition candidates while on the other, the law enforcers and the ruling party goons are attacking the opposition men relentlessly. In addition, the pro-government media are continuously making propaganda against Jamaat-e-Islami and other partners of the 20 party alliances. Their main target is to make opposition compelled to boycott the election. As a part of such conspiracy, Awami League leaders in press conference at their Dhanmondi office, had alleged that Jamaat is trying to dismiss the upcoming election in assistance with the Pakistani intelligence agency, ISI. Their allegations are far away from truth. Not only that, a talk show on Ekattor Television on last 25 December brought some false and baseless allegations against 20 party alliance’s candidate for Sirajganj-4 constituency Maulana Rafiqul Islam Khan. Responding to such allegation of Awami League leaders, I want to assert that Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami has no nexus with ISI at all.

So, there is no way to plot conspiracy with their assistance. Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami do not believe in the politics of plots and conspiracies. Rather, Awami League is more expert in such malpractices. They are outlining plans to arrest the opposition candidates and to sue the opposition activists in a bid to force the opposition alliances for boycotting the election. The allegation against Jamaat-e-Islami of propagating against Bangladesh Army is also false and baseless. The people of the country do not believe such concocted accusations of Awami League.

I am urging the concerned authorities to stop making propaganda against Jamaat-e-Islami and to release all the detained leaders and activists of 20 party alliances including Professor Matiar Rahman and his wife immediately.
