Dr. Rezaul Karim is still missing; Jamaat leaders arrested from Khulna and Rajbari; Professor Mujib condemns

Nayeb-e-Ameer of Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami and former lawmaker Professor Mujibur Rahman has issued the following statement on 22 December 2018 protesting and condemning the abduction of Jamaat’s central working committee member and Dhaka city North unit Jamaat secretary Dr. Rezaul Karim and similar unjustifiable arrest of Khulna city Jamaat’s Assistant Secretary Professor Mia Ghulam Kuddus, Dumuria Upazila council’s Vice-chairman Shirian Doulot abd Rajbari district’s Pangsha municipality Ameer Kazi Forhad Jamil Rupu.

“Jamaat’s central working committee member and Dhaka city North secretary Dr. Rezaul Karim has been abducted and the aforesaid leaders have been arrested as a part of the government’s conspiracy to foil the upcoming election. I am severely protesting and condemning such incidents.

The countrymen through the incidents of abduction, enforced disappearances, arrest and harassment of the opposition candidates have realized that there is no congenial atmosphere for holding an election at all. Instead of creating a better environment, the government and election commission is intensifying the crisis. The people are truly shocked and worried over the ongoing unlawful activities of the government and the election commission.

Dr. Rezaul Karim has been picked up along with his driver on 21 December evening, still he is missing, and his family knows nothing about his whereabouts. His family, relatives and Jamaat-e-Islami is extremely worried about him. The law enforcement agencies said nothing about him. I am urging the concerned authorities to find him out and also return him back to his families immediately.

I am also urging the authorities concerned to stop all kinds of enforced disappearances, abduction, murder, attacks and arrests immediately for the sake of holding a free, fair and credible election.
