Opposition alliance’s candidate Muhaddis Abu Sayeed arrested; Professor Mujib condemns

Nayeb-e-Ameer of Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami and former lawmaker Professor Mujibur Rahman has issued the following statement on 21 December 2018 protesting and condemning the unjustified arrest of 20 party alliance’s cabinet for Jessore-2 constituency Muhaddis Maulana Abu Sayeed.

“Muhaddis Maulana Abu Sayeed has been arrested as a part of the government’s conspiracy to foil the upcoming national election. I am vehemently protesting the incident.

Chief Election Commissioner K M Nurul Huda has claimed that congenial atmosphere is prevailing to hold a free, fair and credible election. On the contrary, the opposition activists are being detained relentlessly. The government is sealing off the election camp office of the opposition nominated candidates. They are being attacked and arrested frequently. How a fair election is possible within such an adverse environment? The remarks of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, Chief Election Commissioner K M Nurul Huda and IGP Md. Jabed Patwari also proved that the authority is plotting conspiracy to hold a voter less farcical election. Such a farce would not bring positive impact for the nation. Rather, the arrogance and stubborn attitude of the government would take the nation towards ultimate destruction.

Therefore, I am pressing demand to stop conspiracies and to release Muhaddis Maulana Abu Sayeed and other opposition candidates along with their electoral associates. Besides, I am calling upon the countrymen to tackle all the unjustified steps which are being applied by the government-backed agencies and security forces.
