Jamaat Ameer greets the countrymen on the occasion of Victory Day

Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami’s Ameer Maqbul Ahmad has issued the following statement on 15 December 2018 on the occasion of Victory Day on 16th December.

The glorious Victory Day is going to be celebrated on 16 December. This day has tremendous significance and importance in our national lives. We are recalling those valiant freedom fighters who had taken part in the independence war and sacrificed their lives for this nation. We are praying for the salvation of their departed souls.

The nation is going to observe Victory Day in such a moment when a suffocating situation is existing everywhere. The society has lost democracy and started its journey towards an uncertain destination. The only to save this nation from the political stalemate is to take steps for holding a free, fair and credible election. There is no alternative but a credible and participatory election. So, the countrymen expect that the government and the election commission would stop their biased approaches to ensure a level-play ground. Political cases and harassment should be stopped against the opposition men. It is also the duty of the authority to secure an environment so that people can go to the vote centers to cast votes for their chosen candidates. Otherwise, the ongoing political deadlock would be intensified. If it happens, the government and the election commission have to take that liabilities.

I am urging all wings and front organizations of Jamaat-e-Islami to make a vow for defending country’s independence and sovereignty. A broad base unity must be formed under the electoral symbol of ‘Sheaf of Paddy’. Finally, I am urging the party men to celebrate the Victory Day with due solemnity by holding discussions and prayer programs.

Besides, I am greeting my fellow countrymen on the occasion of Victory Day and wishing and praying for their peace, progress and prosperities.
