Jamaat leaders and activists arrested from Thakurgaon and Kurigram districts; Mia Ghulam Parwar condemns

Nayeb-e-Ameer of Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami and former lawmaker Professor Mia Ghulam Parwar has issued the following statement on 15 December 2018 protesting and condemning the unjustifiable arrest of Khulna North organizational district Jamaat Ameer Maulana Imran Hossain and 15 others, Thakurgaon district’s Baliadangi Upazila Jamaat Ameer Maulana Rafiqul Islam and Kurigram district’s Roumari Upazila Jamaat Ameer Shamsul Islam.

“The government and the election commission have been plotting conspiracy to hold a voter less and farcical election and as a part of this conspiracy, they have arrested the aforesaid Jamaat leaders by using the police forces. I am vehemently condemning the arrest drives against Jamaat activists in Khulna, Thakurgaon, Kurigram and many other places of the country.

Since the declaration of the poll schedule, the number of arrests, attacks and political cases have increased alarmingly. The government and the election commission are committed to stage another farce in the name of election. They are not interested to hold any fair election. I am calling upon the countrymen to resist the government’s conspiracy to foil the upcoming election.

For the sake of a free, fair and credible election, I am urging the concerned authorities to stop arrest drives and harassments against the opposition activists and to release all the detained leaders and activists of the opposition forces including Khulna North organizational district Jamaat Ameer Maulana Imran Hossain immediately.”
