Police arrests several Jamaat and Chhatrashibir activists from Narsingdi; Rafiqul Islam Khan protests

Assistant Secretary General of Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami Maulana Rafiqul Islam Khan has issued the following statement on 5 December 2018 protesting and condemning the police’s move as they have detained Narsingdi district’s Shibpur Upazila council’s Vice Chairman and local Jamaat leader Abdur Rahman Bhuiyan, Madhobdi municipality Jamaat’s organizing secretary Kazi Moktar Hossen, Jamaat member Kamaruzzaman Milon, Jahirul Haque, Aminul Haque and Jamaat activist Mahbubul Haque while they were returning after their appearance before the court and consequently sued false cases against them.

“Police have arrested the aforesaid Jamaat leaders and activists without any specific reason just to harass them politically. I am severely condemning the incident.

Ahead of the national election, the law enforcers have been arresting the Jamaat-Shibir activists and other opposition party men across the country in a bid to launch a reign of terror. The incumbent government has become completely detached from the people. In fear of massive defeat, they are creating a havoc and detaining the opposition men relentlessly just to hold another farcical election as part of their conspiracy to push the nation towards anarchy and uncertainty.

The election commission is acting like a subservient institution of the government. The repression of the government is being intensified as the date of voting is approaching. I am urging the countrymen to form mass resistance against the torture and repression of the government.

Finally, I am calling upon the concerned authorities to stop conspiracies and to release all the detained leaders and activists of Jamaat-e-Islami, Islami Chhatrashibir and other opposition parties including Narsingdi district’s Shibpur Upazila council’s Vice Chairman and local Jamaat leader Abdur Rahman Bhuiyan immediately.
