Police arrests Thakurgaon district Jamaat Ameer and several Jamaat activists; Professor Mujib condemns

Nayeb-e-Ameer of Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami and former lawmaker Professor Mujibur Rahman has issued the following statement on 2nd November 2018 protesting and condemning the unjustified arrest of Thakurgaon district Jamaat Ameer Maulana Abdul Hakim, Tangail district’s Gopalpur Upazila Nayeb-e-Ameer Rafiqul Islam, Rajshahi district’s Tanor Upazila Vice-Chairman and local Jamaat leader Abdur Rahim and Natore district’s Lalpur Upazila Sadar Union president Khairul Islam Bashar Jewel and Durduria union Jamaat Ameer Nazrul Islam and 6 other leaders and activists of Jamaat-e-Islami and Islami Chhatrashibir.

“The government has arrested the leaders and activists of Jamaat-e-Islami and Chhatrashibir from various places across the country just to attain its ill-political interest. I am vehemently condemning police’s nationwide arrest drive against the activists of Jamaat-e-Islami and Islami Chhatrashibir.

Ahead of the parliament election, the government is plotting conspiracy to foil the congenial atmosphere and as a part of the same conspiracies, they are detaining the leaders and activists of Jamaat-e-Islami and Chhrashibir relentlessly. These realities clarified that the government is not interested to hold a free, fair and inclusive election at all. They are arresting and imprisoning the opposition men, particularly the leaders and activists of Jamaat-e-Islami in order to keep the opposition out of the electoral process for paving the way of holding a lopsided election. The government has turned the entire nation into a big prison. So, there is no alternative but launching a massive resistance and movement for holding a free, fair and credible election. Every quarters have to realize this vital fact.

Under the circumstances, I am urging the concerned authorities to release all the detained leaders and activists of Jamaat-e-Islami and Chhatrashibir including Thakurgaon district Jamaat Ameer Maulana Abdul Hakim immediately.”
