Central Publicity Affairs Secretary of Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami, Professor Md. Tasnim Alam has issued the following statement on 1st November 2018 protesting and gainsaying the false and baseless report of Daily Janakantha titled “জঙ্গি অর্থায়নে জামায়াত” (Jamaat is financing militancy).

I am vehemently protesting and condemning the false propaganda of Daily Janakantha against Jamaat-e-Islami as they published some wrong and fabricated information in the report titled “জঙ্গি অর্থায়নে জামায়াত” (Jamaat is financing militancy). The contents of the reports are completely false.

The report has been published just to tarnish the image of Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami. Police in recent times have arrested some officials of Bangladesh Chashi Kollan Shomity. Police also tortured them inhumanly and managed a statement forcefully. Quoting that statement, Daily Janakantha claimed in its report that Jamaat brought money from various countries in the name of public welfare and campaigning of Islam. It is absolutely unlawful and illegal to disclose the statement of the people, who are in police custody. Police officials cannot commit such offence as well. So, there is no doubt, this particular report of Daily Janakantha is completely false.

We have always condemned and protested their false reports. But they violated the ethics of journalism by not publishing our rejoinders. The quarters who do not have the minimum responsibility of publishing a rejoinder, their reports can never be true. We further have asserted that Jamaat has no nexus with the militants. So, no question can be raised of Jamaat’s funding for militancy. This report is nothing but a self-made fiction of the concerned reporter.

The countrymen are aware that it is the age-long habit of Daily Janakantha to continue baseless propaganda against Jamaat-e-Islami.

In this backdrop, I am urging the authorities of Daily Janakantha to be refrained from conducting false propaganda against Jamaat-e-Islami.”
