Government’s desire reflected in the verdict of 21st August grenade attack case; says Secretary General

Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami's Secretary General Dr. Shafiqur Rahman issued the following statement on 10th October 2018 regarding the lower court verdict on the 21st August  grenade attack case which awarded the death penalty to 19 accused and life term imprisonment to another 19. He said:

“Government’s desire has been reflected in the verdict of the 21st August grenade attack case. The defence sides have rejected this verdict and questioned the fairness of the court.

“At present, the country is being ruled by an authoritarian regime. The government has established absolute control on the judiciary. The much talked about book of former Chief Justice S K Sinha has exposed how nakedly and unduly the executive branch of the government in today’s Bangladesh is interfering with the judiciary. There is no democracy, justice and rule of law in the country. Under such circumstances, no one can get justice. So, this verdict is not acceptable to the people of the country.

“A pertinent question is whether or not the accused of this case have received justice.”
