The authority has filed a false case based on some fictitious charges against Jamaat-e-Islami’s Nayeb-e-Ameer and former member of Parliament Professor Mia Ghulam Parwar in Dumuria Upazila under Khulna district. Similarly, in another heinous move, police arrested 17 leaders and activists of Jamaat-e-Islami from Sylhet including Sylhet South organizational district Secretary and former chairman of Surma Upazila council Maulana Lokman Ahmad on last 23^rd September. Secretary General of Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami, Dr. Shafiqur Rahman has issued the following statement on 25^th September protesting and condemning the incidents.

“False case has been filed against Jamaat’s Nayeb-e-Ameer and Ex-MP Professor Mia Ghulam Parwar and similarly police arrested 17 Jamaat men including Ex-Upazila Chairman Maulana Lokman Ahmad just to harass them politically. I am vehemently condemning and protesting these incidents.

The government is harassing the Jamaat leaders and activists nationwide by lodging false and politically motivated cases against them just to destroy the leadership structure of the organization. Jamaat’s Nayeb-e-Ameer and Ex-lawmaker Professor Mia Ghulam Parwar and Sylhet’s Maulana Lokman Ahmad are popular leaders. The government is harassing them as they are afraid of their growing popularities. The government has filed false case on the basis of some fictitious charges against Professor Mia Ghulam Parwar to keep him away from the electoral process in Khulna-5 constituency in next parliamentary election. These incidents again exposed the fascist face of the government. These repressive strategies also proved that fair and credible election is not possible under the current regime. In this backdrop, I am calling upon the countrymen to launch massive movement for pressing the demand of holding national election under the neutral caretaker government.

I am calling upon the concerned authorities to revoke the false case against Professor Mia Ghulam Parwar and also to release all the detained leaders and activists of Jamaat-e-Islami including Maulana Lokman Ahmad immediately.”
