Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami’s Ameer Maqbul Ahmad has issued the following statement on 24th September 2018 expressing deep concern as the Nayeb-e-Ameer of the party and former lawmaker Maulana A N M Shamsul Islam has been denied bail and subsequently sent to jail today in connection with a false case.
“Maulana A N M Shamsul Islam is a popular leader. The government has filed false case against him. Being afraid of his popularity, the government is harassing him. He is a good citizen having due respect towards law and judiciary. He was appeared before the court today and filed a petition seeking bail. But the court rejected his plea and sent him jail. We are deeply shocked and surprised at this incident. He has become the victim of government’s political vengeance. The government is unjustifiably mulling to keep him behind the bar in order to make him ineligible for the next general election.
I am urging the concerned authorities to stop harassment and to release him immediately.
