Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami’s Secretary General Dr. Shafiqur Rahman has issued the following statement on 15th September 2018 protesting and condemning the unjustifiable arrest of Gaibandha district Jamaat Secretary and Sadar Upazila chairman Abdul Karim and 6 other activists this evening.
“The government in one side is talking about participatory elections, while on the other they are detaining the opposition leaders and activists relentlessly and indiscriminately. Police has arrested Jamaat leaders and activists including Abdul Karim and Principal Iqbal Hossain just to harass them politically.
The popularity of the government is at the lowest level now. As a result, the government has been arresting the opposition activists desperately. I am demanding release of all detained party men immediately. Besides, I am calling upon my fellow countrymen to raise voice against the torture and oppression of the government.
