Police arrests Rangpur district Jamaat leader; Rafiqul Islam Khan demands immediate release

Assistant Secretary General of Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami, Maulana Rafiqul Islam Khan has issued the following statement on 11th September 2018 protesting and condemning the unjustifiable arrest of Rangpur district’s Mithapukur Upazila unit Jamaat’s Nayeb-e-Ameer and former chairman of Latifpur Union council Professor Shah Mohammad Hafizur Rahman.

“Police has arrested Rangpur district’s Mithapukur Upazila unit Jamaat’s Nayeb-e-Ameer and former chairman of Latifpur Union council Shah Mohammad Hafizur Rahman as they became afraid of his increasing popularity. I am vehemently condemning this unjust detention.

Professor Shah Mohammad Hafizur Rahman is a popular leader and academician. Police has arrested today without any specific reason. He has become the worst victim of repeated arrest and repression of the incumbent government. This arrest incident once again exposed the tyrannical face of the government. This government has no more connection with the people. As the day of national election is appearing, the authority is arresting the leaders and activists of 20 party alliances unlawfully. But they will not be able to stay in office by continuing such oppression. I am urging my fellow countrymen to raise voice against the misrule of this tyrannical government.

I am calling upon the concerned authorities to stop arrest drive and to release all the detained leaders and activists of Jamaat-e-Islami including Professor Shah Mohammad Hafizur Rahman immediately.”
