Protesting students, US ambassador’s vehicle and Sujan’s Secretary’s house came under attack; Jamaat Ameer condemns

Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami’s Ameer Maqbul Ahmad has issued the following statement on 5th August, 2018 protesting and condemning the brutal attack of the Police and ruling party’s student wing Chhatra League and labor wing Sramik League cadres upon the teenager students of different schools who have been carrying out nationwide movement for last couple of days to press the demand of securing roads and simultaneously condemning the government backed unofficial strike of the transport owners and workers and also remonstrating Saturday night’s attack on US Ambassador to Bangladesh Marcia Bernicat’s vehicle andthe home of Shujan’s Secretary BadiulAlam Majumdar.

“The citizens are suffering the most due to undeclared strike of the pro-government transport owners and workers. This deadlock has been created intentionally just to foil the ongoing student movement. The ongoing situation has made us, along with the countrymen deeply worried.

The government has taken a suicidal measure by patronizing the transport labors. The people of the country are well informed that the reason behind creating such transport crisis is to foil the student movement. The government is fully responsible for the mass crisis. Due to inactions and failure of the government, significant number of people become crippled everyday. Moreover, on an average, 64 people are being killed daily in different road accidents.

Though the Prime Minister assured to meet the demand of the protesting students, but they cannot trust her anymore. Because in recent times, the Prime Minister played an ill-game with the agitating students, who had struggled for quota reform. Prime Minister also assured in those occasions as well, but so far none of those demands is met. Moreover, Prime Minister did not issue any circular rather she subsequently delivered a baseless and false address putting the excuse of a judicial order. Such reality has diminished the confidence and trust of the students upon the Prime Minister.

Prime Minister, in one hand is claiming to accept all the demands, while on the other, the Chhatra League (BCL) goons are being engaged in different places to carry attack on the innocent students. Even the female students have been assaulted and molested by the ruling party cadres. Police has also hurled tear shells and jointly attacked upon the students along with the BCL cadres during today’s demonstrations. The students also formed counter resistance which compelled the terrorists to flee away later on.

The miscreants also attacked the vehicle from the US Embassy in Dhaka, which was transporting US Ambassador to Bangladesh Marcia Bernicat and simultaneously attacked the house of Shujan’s Secretary BadiulAlam Majumdar. I am severely condemning the incidents and demanding immediate prosecution of the miscreants.

The non-political movement of the students can not be resisted in such a way. I am urging the authorities concerned to accept the justified demands of the students in order to take them back to the classes. I am demanding strong punishment of all the attackers. Otherwise, the government has to take all the liabilities.
