Police arrests former Jamaat MP Shahjahan Chowdhury from Chittagong; Jamaat Ameer demands immediate release

Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami's Ameer Maqbul Ahmad has issued the following statement on 3rd August, 2018 protesting and condemning the unjust arrest of 6 Jamaat members and activists from a house in Chittagong including Central Majlish-e-Shura member, Chittagong city Jamaat's working committee member and former MP  Shahjahan Chowdhury.

Mr. Shahjahan Chowdhury is a popular leader. Earlier he had been kept behind the bar for years. He is suffering from various diseases now. Such an arrest is amount to great offence against him. I am condemning such repression of the government against him and demanding immediate release of Mr. Shahjahan Chowdhury and all other detainees. I am also calling upon the countrymen to raise voice against such torture and oppression of the government.

In a similar statement, Jamaat-e-Islami's Nayeb-e-Ameer and ex-MP Maulana A N M Shamsul Islam demanded immediate release of Shahjahan Chowdhury and claimed the government has arrested Mr. Shahjahan Chowdhury unjustly. I am protesting and condemning government's torture and oppressive actions against him and demanding his release immediately.
