Rafiqul Islam Khan urges Election Commission to take due initiatives for holding fair polls in three city corporations

City elections in three city corporations including is knocking at the door. Ahead of the election, Awami League leaders and activists and the local administration are carrying out inhuman torture and repression against the opposition men, particularly the activists of Jamaat-e-Islami. Assistant Secretary General of Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami, Maulana Rafiqul Islam Khan has issued the following statement on 24th July, 2018 expressing deep concern in this regard.

City elections in three city corporations including is knocking at the door. In this backdrop, ruling party men, local administration and election commission are making verbal clamors about holding a peaceful election. But practically the reality is completely adverse. Rather the law enforcers and the ruling party terrorists are intimidating and threatening the Jamaat men in all city areas, particularly in Rajshahi. Even the warned the general voters not to cast their votes or visit the poll centers. Apparently, there is no possibilities’ of holding a fair and credible election at all. The voters are also being disappointed at the ongoing situation. I am vehemently protesting, condemning and expressing deep resentment at such role of the ruling party, administration and the election commission.

I am urging the election commission to take proper initiatives so that the general voters along with the opposition supporters can cast their votes in the upcoming city polls properly.
