Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami’s Secretary General Dr. Shafiqur Rahman has issued the following statement on 22nd July, 2018 expressing deep concern as the terrorists of Chhatra League and Jubo League jointly attack on Mahmudur Rahman while he was leaving Kushtia court premise after appearing in a defamation case.
Mr. Mahmudur Rahman appeared before the court in Kushtia showing due respect towards law and the judiciary. The court granted him bail and asked the authority to reach him in Dhaka under due protection. But while he was leaving the court premise, the terrorists of Chhatra League and Jubo League jointly attack on him and cordoned him off. He became critically injured and his vehicle also has been damaged.
It is the duty of the government to provide security to the citizens. The government is maintaining this duty by utilizing the law enforcers. But such failure of the law enforcers is a matter of great concern for the nation and the countrymen.
The judiciary is apparently said to be free and independent. But today’s incident proved that the judiciary is not only free rather it is weaker than any previous occasions. The role of the law enforcers is really painful. I am urging the court authority to reach Mahmudur Rahman in his residence in Dhaka under due protection. Besides, I am calling upon to arrest all the Chhatra League and Jubo League cadres to ensure their exemplary punishment.
