Tasnim Alam again dismisses false reports of several media against Jamaat-e-Islami; 20 party alliances is still united, he affirms

Central Publicity Affairs Secretary of Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami, Professor Md. Tasnim Alam has issued the following statement on 9th July, 2018 protesting and gainsaying two reports published in the last page of Daily Jugantor and first page of Daily Amader Shomoy respectively today containing false and baseless information about Jamaat-e-Islami and its leaders.

“Two reports published in the last page of Daily Jugantor and first page of Daily Amader Shomoy respectively today contained irrelevant and baseless information about Jamaat-e-Islami and its leaders.

We have been observing for last couple of days that several media including Amader Shomoy are publishing syndicated news based on false information cantering Jamaat’s decision to compete in Sylhet mayoral election. With these reports they are trying to create confusion and misunderstanding between Jamaat-e-Islami and BNP as a part of serving the government’s agenda in this regard.

City Corporation election is a local election. Jamaat has every right to seek the support of the 20 party alliances for its mayoral candidate in Sylhet City Corporation polls. Why it would create division among the alliance partners? Why the question of negotiation would be emanated in such case? We want to affirm that during the current regime, Jamaat is the worst sufferer and severely victimised due to government’s torture and repression. So there is no chance of maintaining secret relation between the Jamaat and the ruling party leaders.

The unity within the 20 party alliances is still valid. We want to form greater unity under the banner of 20 party alliances. There is no chance of creating any confusion in this regard.

The report also stated that during the time of distributing constituencies among the alliance partners in 2008, Jamaat’s the then Secretary General Shaheed Ali Ahsan Mohammad Mujahid made some discourteous behaviour with BNP Chairperson Begum Khaleda Zia- such claim is also ridiculous. This information also brought in forth just to humiliate the character of this martyr. The incumbent government has executed this great leader. As he is no more to response the false propaganda, these reporters took the chance of humiliating him as well. Such actions are contradictory to the principles of journalism.

Responding to the false information of these two reports, we want to assert that Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami does not believe in the politics of opportunity. Jamaat is an ideological party. There is no room for opportunist within this party.

In such backdrop, I am urging the authorities of two dailies to be refrained from publishing false report against Jamaat-e-Islami and expecting that they would publish this rejoinder properly to minimize mass confusion.”
