Members of quota reform movement hurt in Chhatra League attack in DU campus; Secretary General condemns

Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami’s Secretary General Dr. Shafiqur Rahman has issued the following statement on 30th June, 2018 protesting and condemning the heinous incident as several members of quota reform movement were attacked by the members of Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL), ruling Awami League’s student wing, on the Dhaka University campus this morning.

“I am vehemently condemning the merciless attack of the ruling Awami League’s student wing Chhatra League’s cadres with lethal weapons against the leaders of quota reform movement in front of Dhaka University’s Central Library Building. This incident has exposed the terror face of Chhatra League once again.

The activists of quota reform movement had postponed their movement in the wake of the assurance of the Prime Minister. But today’s attack substantiated that; the government is not sincere at all about implementing the announcement of the Premier. This is why; the authorities are making dillydally and wasting time to issue government’s gazette in this regard. They are also trying to foil the student movement by engaging the party cadres against them, which may cause some disastrous consequences for all quarters.

In this backdrop, I am urging the concerned authorities to issue government’s gazette as per the assurance of the Prime Minister and also to conduct proper investigation into the incident BCL cadre’s attack on the members of the quota reform movement in order to ensure their due punishment.”
