Police arrests 50 Jamaat activists from Eid reunion program in Faridpur; Hamidur Rahman Azad condemns

Assistant Secretary General of Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami and former lawmaker Hamidur Rahman Azad has issued the following statement on 18th June, 2018 protesting and condemning the unjustifiable arrest of around 50 leaders and activists of Jamaat-e-Islami Faridpur district unit including Jamaat’s central organizing secretary and assistant regional coordinator Md. Delwar Hossen, Vanga Upazila Jamaat Ameer and Upazila council’s Vice chairman Maulana Sarwar Hossen and secretary Rokon Uddin, from a post-Eid reunion program from the Mali village under Vanga Upazila of the Faridpur district.

“I am vehemently protesting and condemning the unjust arrest of 50 leaders and activists of Jamaat-e-Islami Faridpur district unit including Jamaat leader Md. Delwar Hossen, Maulana Sarwar Hossen and Rokon Uddin from an in-house and peaceful refreshing program like Eid reunion. Police has arrested just to harass them politically.

The government has continued their illegal arrest drive against the leaders and activists of Jamaat-e-Islami and Chhatrashibir in the recently passed holy month of Ramadan just to stay in power. Today, while the nation is observing the Eid vacation, even in such a period, they have arrested some 50 Jamaat men from Faridpur district. Even the elected public representatives are not spared from such arrest drive. Such tyrannical actions are beyond imagination in a democratic society. This incident once again exposed the fascist face of the government.

I am calling upon the concerned authorities to stop their fascist like actions and to release all the detained leaders and activists of Jamaat-e-Islami including Md. Delwar Hossen immediately and unconditionally.”
