Secretary General of Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami, Dr. Shafiqur Rahman has issued the following statement on 14th June, 2018 protesting and condemning the unjustifiable arrest of the mayoral candidate of Jamaat-e-Islami in the upcoming Rajshahi city Corporation Principal Siddiq Hossain, Rajshahi city Jamaat’s Nayeb-e-Ameer Advocate Abu Mohammad Salim and 7 other leaders and activists from a view exchanging meeting with the local religious leaders.
“The authority has arrested the mayoral candidate of Jamaat-e-Islami in the upcoming Rajshahi city Corporation Principal Siddiq Hossain and top religious leaders of Rajshahi city just immediate before the Eid-ul-Fitr from an in-house program. I vehemently protest and condemn the incident.
The government in one hand, talks about holding fair election, while on the other, they are not allowing the opposition’s mayoral candidate to hold even some in-house programs. I am protesting against such fascist activities of the government and demanding their release before the occasion of Eid-ul-Fitr. Besides, I am urging the countrymen to form resistance against such torture and oppression of the government.”
