Secretary General demands Begum Khaleda Zia’s release before Eid-ul-Fitr

Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami’s Secretary General Dr. Shafiqur Rahman has issued the following statement on 11th June, 2018 expressing deep concern at the news of deteriorating health condition of detained BNP Chairperson, leader of the 20 party alliances and former Prime Minister Begum Khaleda Zia inside the prison and simultaneously calling upon the authorities to release her immediately.

“BNP Chairperson, leader of the 20 party alliances and former Prime Minister Begum Khaleda Zia has become critically sick inside the prison; such news has been revealed recently which made us deeply concerned.

The countrymen, particularly the leaders and activists of 20 party alliances are highly shocked and concerned with such news. She is 73 now and has been suffering from various diseases. She holds the constitutional rights to get due medical treatment. But instead of ensuring such treatment, she is being kept behind the bar which is completely inhuman and politically vindictive. The government cannot avoid its liabilities if she suffers from any further crisis.

Under the circumstances, I am calling upon the government to release her before the occasion of Eid-ul-Fitr and also to undertake proper initiatives to facilitate her treatment according to her desire.
