Police arrested Jamaat leaders from Nilphamari; Rafiqul Islam Khan protests

Assistant Secretary General of Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami, Maulana Rafiqul Islam Khan has issued the following statement on 11th June, 2018 protesting and condemning the unjust arrest of Jamaat-e-Islami’s central Majlish-e-Shura member and former Nilphamari district Ameer Principal Azizul Islam and Nilphamari Sadar Upazila’s Working and Majlish-e-Shura member Abdul Malek.

“Police has unjustifiably arrested Jamaat-e-Islami’s central Majlish-e-Shura member and former Nilphamari district Ameer Principal Azizul Islam and Nilphamari Sadar Upazila’s Working and Majlish-e-Shura member Abdul Malek on last 10th June just immediate before the Iftar. I am vehemently protesting and condemning the incident.

Principal Azizul Islam is a veteran academician and a popular and respected figure. The government has arrested him as they are in fear of his growing popularity. The authority has arrested these two Jamaat leaders just to harass them politically. Government’s fascist face has been exposed once again through this arrest drive. I am calling upon the countrymen to raise voice against such tyrannical activities of the government.

I am urging the concerned authorities to stop all such harassment and to release all the detained leaders and activists of Jamaat-e-Islami including Principal Azizul Islam before the occasion of Eid-ul-Fitr unconditionally.
