4 Jamaat leaders including Ex-Upazila Chairman arrested from Kushtia; Mia Ghulam Parwar condemns

Nayeb-e-Ameer of Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami and former lawmaker Professor Mia Ghulam Parwar has issued the following statement on 26th May, 2018 protesting and condemning the unjustifiable arrest of 4 Jamaat members and activists from Kushtia district including district’s Mirpur Upazila unit Jamaat Ameer and Ex-Upazila Council Chairman Abdul Gafur.

“The authorities have arrested 4 Jamaat members and activists from Kushtia district including district’s Mirpur Upazila unit Jamaat Ameer and Ex-Upazila Council Chairman Abdul Gafur on last 25thMay just to harass them politically. I am vehemently protesting and condemning the incident.

Mr. Abdul Gafur is a popular leader. He had been elected Union Council Chairman for three times. He was also elected as the Mirpur Upazila Council Chairman for once. He has been arrested and subsequently sent to jail due to his massive popularity. This incident has exposed the fascist face of the government once again. Such fascist behavior of the government clearly contradicts the spirit of human rights.

Under the circumstances, I am urging the concerned authorities to release all the detained leaders and activists of Jamaat-e-Islami including Abdul Gafur immediately.”
