Religious scholar humiliated in broad daylight; Hamidur Rahman Azad demands stern punishment of the miscreants

Assistant Secretary General of Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami and former lawmaker Hamidur Rahman Azad has issued the following statement on 15th May, 2018 demanding stern punishment of Jatio Party leader Jahangir Alam Khandaker and his associates as they have detained a religious scholar of  Barisal district’s Bakerganj Upazila’s Rongosree Union’s Darus Sunnah Dakhil Madrasa’s Super and Nesarabad Baitul Aman Jame Mosque’s Imam Maulana Abu Hanifa and subsequently humiliated him by putting human stool on his head.

“I am vehemently protesting and condemning the recent much talked about incident as a group of miscreants led by local Jatio Party leader Jahangir Alam Khandaker, detained Barisal district’s Bakerganj Upazila’s Rongosree Union’s Darus Sunnah Dakhil Madrasa’s Super and Nesarabad Baitul Aman Jame Mosque’s Imam Maulana Abu Hanifa and insulted him by putting human stool on his head. It is highly disrespectful and indecent behaviours with a religious scholar and stern punishment must be taken against the persons who were involved with this incident.

We came to know that local Jatio Party leader Jahangir Alam Khandakar and his associates became angered over Maulana Abu Hanifa and insulted him as Mr. Jahangir had been defeated in the recent Madrasa governing body election. It is also a matter of fact that, Mr. Jahangir had been barred by Maulana Abu Hanifa and some other peoples while they were trying to grab the Madrasa land. The religious personnel around the country and the peace loving peoples are extremely shocked and aggrieved over this incident. A man with good conscience can never do such awful and wrongful deed.

I am urging the concerned authorities to probe into the incident and bring all involved personnel to the book in order to ensure their stern punishment.”
