10 dies of heatstroke while collecting iftar items in Satkania; Acting Ameer expresses condolences

Acting Ameer of Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami and former lawmaker Maulana A N M Shamsul Islam has issued the following statement on 14th May, 2018 expressing deep shock and concern as at least 10 women have been killed and 50 others injured of heatstroke and in subsequent stampede while collecting Iftar essentials at a Madrasa ground in Satkania Upazila of Chittagong district this morning.

“The tragic death of at least 10 women while collecting Iftar essentials at a Madrasa ground in Satkania Upazila of Chittagong district is really very painful. I am expressing deep shock and concern in this regard.

We have observed same type of painful incident in the recent past as well. It is certainly a noble deed to distribute Iftar essentials among the poor and impoverished sections of the society. But we do not expect to see that peoples are dying of heatstroke or in stampede during such occasion. This tragic incident may be avoided with the assistances of the law enforcers. So everybody should be more careful to stop the recurrence of such incident again.

I am praying for the salvation those peoples, who have killed in Satkania. I am extending deep sympathy to the victim families. I am also urging the concerned authorities to ensure due treatment for the injured peoples along with proper compensation to the victim families.”
