Jamaat leader’s bail denied; Secretary General terms the detention as government’s political vengeance

Showing full respect towards the law, on 22nd April in connection with some false cases, Khulna city Ameer of Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami Maulana Abul Kalam Azad and Jessore East organizational Ameer Master Nuronnobi had surrendered before Khulna district Court and Jessore district court respectively. But the concerned courts did not grant them bail and subsequently sent to the jail. Expressing deep concern at the incidents, Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami’s Secretary General Dr. Shafiqur Rahman has issued the following statement on 23rd April, 2018.

“The Jamaat leaders demonstrated their full respect towards the law and surrendered before the court accordingly in connection with some false cases, filed against them. But I am deeply worried as they were sent to the jail.

Maulana Abul Kalam Azad and Master Nuronnobi, both of them are highly respected individuals. The government lodged false cases just to harass them politically. They have become the victim of government’s political vengeance. As a modest citizen, they had gone to the court to surrender. But it is regrettable that they were arrested and sent to jail consequently.

I am urging the concerned authorities to stop political harassment and to release them immediately.”
