Jamaat-e-Islami demands immediate release of Begum Khaleda Zia to ensure her better treatment

Acting Ameer of Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami and former lawmaker Maulana A N M Shamsul Islam and party’s Secretary General Dr. Shafiqur Rahman have jointly issued the following statement on 22nd April, 2018 expressing deep concern as the news came up that 20 party alliances leader, BNP Chairperson and former Prime Minister Begum Khaleda Zia became severely sick inside the prison.

“We are deep worried as 20 party alliances leader, BNP Chairperson and former Prime Minister Begum Khaleda Zia became severely sick inside the prison.

BNP’s senior leaders and the family members of Begum Khaleda Zia have been barred repeatedly by the prison authority to meet her in last couple of days which have amplified our anxieties. Begum Zia has become the victim of vindictive politics since her arrest. Even the concerned authorities are showing dilly-dally to provide her due facilities inside the prison. Such treatments expose the spiteful attitude of the government towards her. Under the circumstances, BNP leaders and the relatives and family members of Begum Zia are in fear of more deterioration of her physical condition. The government is violating human rights by not allowing her due medical treatment in free atmosphere.

We are calling upon the government to release Begum Khaleda Zia immediately to ensure better treatment in free atmosphere as per her desire.”
