Rafiqul Islam Khan denounces Rajshahi Police SP’s false statement against detained Jamaat member and his families

Assistant Secretary General of Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami, Maulana Rafiqul Islam Khan has issued the following statement on 19th April, 2018 protesting and denouncing the remarks of Rajshai Police Superintendent, which he said while talking to the journalists following the unjustified arrest of Jamaat-e-Islami’s member Abul Hasan, his wife, two daughters and 3 nieces from Godagari of Rajshahi on 18th April dawn.

“We have no word to condemn the false and intentional statement of Rajshai Police Superintendent following the unjustified arrest of Jamaat-e-Islami’s member Abul Hasan, his wife, two daughters and 3 nieces.

Abul Hasan is a member of Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami. He is also the President of Deopara union unit of Sramik Kollan Federation. He is a well known personality in his native area. He has been living there as the permanent resident. The local peoples also know him as a Jamaat leader. His daughters and nieces are pious and students. They do not have any nexus with any militant organization or terrorism. However, Rajshahi police’s superintendent in his illogical address termed them as ‘militant’ which shocked and surprised us.

Following their arrest, they have been kept in custody unlawfully for a long period of time. It is clear violation of human rights and brutal repression against them. The fictitious address of Rajshahi Police’s Superintendent is totally unexpected. We want to clarify that, Abul Hasan is a member of Jamaat-e-Islami. The locals know him very well and they will testify that Abul Hasan, his wife, two daughters and nieces are not involved with terrorism. The local peoples do not believe the politically motivated statement of the Police Superintendent against them.

I am protesting and condemning the baseless and false statement of a senior officer of the law enforcement bodies following their unlawful arrest. Besides, I am demanding their immediate and unconditional release.”
