Jamaat member arrested in Rajshahi along with his female family members; Secretary General condemns

Secretary General of Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami, Dr. Shafiqur Rahman has issued the following statement on 18th April, 2018 protesting and condemning the wrongful arrest of Jamaat-e-Islami’s member Abul Hasan, his wife, two daughters and his 3 nieces from Rajshahi’s Godagari area.

“The government has arrested Jamaat-e-Islami’s member Abul Hasan, his wife, two daughters and his 3 nieces just to harass them and thus the authority has exposed its utmost inhumanity.

Following their arrest from their house on 18th April dawn, the law enforcement agencies have unlawfully kept them detained all the day long. Even they were not produced before the court. According to the law, if they commit any crime, they are supposed to be produced before the court. But instead of such move, the law enforcers have kept them in their custody for such a long period which once again proved that the government arrested them just for political harassment.

Most of the detainees are students. So the government’s conspiracy against them and so as their detention is entirely unlawful, illogical and unconstitutional. I am condemning such actions of the government and demanding release of Abul Hasan, his wife, two daughters and his 3 nieces immediately.”
