Government applied shrewd political tactics to foil the quota reform movement, alleges Hamidur Rahman Azad

Assistant Secretary General of Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami and former lawmaker Hamidur Rahman Azad has issued the following statement on 17th April, 2018 protesting and condemning the recent incident as three leading organisers of the quota reform movement were picked up by law enforcement as blindfolded after they were whisked away in a microbus on Monday.

“I am protesting and vehemently condemning the law enforcer’s move as they picked up 3 leading organizers of the quota reform movement and took them to the DB office as blindfolded; though the detainees were released after 2 hours.

The protesting students postponed their movement after the Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina had announced to abolish the entire quota system. But instead of issuing any gazette to materialize the decision so far, the authorities have picked up 3 top organizers of the movement keeping them blindfolded. Though the detainees were released after 3 hours but this whole incident made the countrymen worried and concerned.

The protesting students also disclosed their unsecured status. Paying no heed to their justified demand, the Road communication and bridge minister Obaidul Quader are threatening them repeatedly which actually proved government’s insincere attitude in this regard. Rather it showed the ill-intention and shrewd political strategies of the government which have been taken to foil the quota reform movement.

I am urging the government to stop all conspiracies and intentional games and also to accept the rightful demands of the students. I am also calling upon the authorities concerned to withdraw all cases, filed against the protesting students and to release the detainees immediately and unconditionally.”
