Quota system must be reformed to evaluate the real talents

Secretary General urges government to accept the rightful demands of the agitating students

Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami’s Secretary General Dr. Shafiqur Rahman has issued the following statement on 10th February, 2018 urging the government to accept the rightful demands of the talented students nationwide who have been continuing movement to press the demand of reforming the discriminatory quota system in government jobs.

“The talented and meritorious students of the country have been continuing movement to press the demand of reforming the discriminatory quota system in government jobs. Their demands are rightful and justified. The government should accept and recognize their demands immediately. But instead of accepting those demands, the law enforcers and the Chhatra League cadres are repeatedly attacking the mass students and arresting the agitators. I am vehemently protesting and condemning such repressive actions of the government.

I am observing with grave concern that, the talented student communities of the country have taken into the street for long days in line with demand of reforming the existing quota system. Not only the youth student sections, but the academicians, journalists, intellectuals and politicians also opined for reforming the discriminatory quota system. But the government paid no heed to their views. Resultantly the student communities became forced to initiate this ultimate movement.

The demand of the students has become the national demand now. Talents and merits of potential candidates are not being evaluated properly due to existence of the discriminatory quota system. Appraising talent is a must to build the country properly. At present, 56 percent candidates are getting job opportunities on the basis of quota system. Such reality is completely unseen in anywhere of the world.

Under the circumstances, I am insisting the government to avert their stubborn approaches and to accept the rightful demands of the agitating students immediately.”
