Acting Ameer recalls Shaheed Muhammad Kamaruzzaman ahead of 3rd year of his martyrdom

Acting Ameer of Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami and former lawmaker Maulana A N M Shamsul Islam has issued the following statement on 10th April, 2018 ahead of 11th April, the 3rd anniversary of martyrdom of former Senior Assistant Secretary General of Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami, noted journalist, politician, intellectual, author and researcher Shaheed Muhammad Kamaruzzaman.

“The government has convicted and sentenced Muhammad Kamaruzzaman with death penalty by producing its party men as false witnesses in a farcical trial. Different nations, international organizations and local quarters protested against his unjust penalty. United Nations, USA, UK, different other nations and human rights watchdogs also called upon the government to impose a moratorium on his conviction. But rejecting all those pleas, the government executed this veteran personality on 11th April, 2015 at 10.30 pm.

Muhammad Kamaruzzaman became involved with the Islamic movement since his student life. He discharged duties as the Central President of Islami Chhatrashibir. He also performed responsibilities as the Senior Assistant Secretary General of Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami. Along with his political roles, he also made some outstanding contributions as an author, journalist and researcher. He has written many books. His books and other writings will be remained as a source of inspiration for the leaders and activists of Islamic movement and also for the countrymen.

The nation will recall his contribution in country’s democratic movement with due honour. He was uncompromised till his last breath against all sorts of unlawfulness, wrongfulness and falsehood. He never bowed down his head in front of government’s conspiracy. He also left some important messages for the Islamic movement workers, for the nation and the countrymen. He declared with hope that Islamic movement will be victorious on this land, as it has become sacred with the blood of his fellow martyrs. He also expressed optimism that one day, the government’s conspiracy to kill him and his fellow brothers will be disclosed and then the people will be more vocal against the autocratic government. The movement of the people will ensure the downfall of the government and subsequently people’s rights will be established and secured.

I am praying to Almighty Allah for the acceptance of his martyrdom and urging the countrymen to take part in the struggle and movement, which he has left for us.”
