Veteran Jamaat leader Ataur Rahman dies; Acting Ameer and Secretary General express condolence

Former central Nayeb-e-Ameer of Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami, former Ameer of Rajshahi city Jamaat-e-Islami, valiant freedom fighter and noted academician Ataur Rahman died of brain stroke this dawn at the age of 70. Innalillahi Wa inna ilaihi rajiun. He has left his wife, two sons, 3 daughters and many other relatives and followers. He will be buried at the Hetem Khan graveyard in Rajshahi following his namaj-e-janaja (funeral prayer) at 4 pm in Rajshahi Terkhadia stadium women complex ground.

Message of condolence

Acting Ameer of Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami and former lawmaker Maulana A N M Shamsul Islam and party’s Secretary General Dr. Shafiqur Rahman have jointly issued the following message of condolence on 4th April, 2018 at the death of Ataur Rahman.

In the condolence message, Jamaat leaders said, Ataur Rahman has served the nation wholeheartedly as a freedom fighter, academician and as a prominent leader of Jamaat-e-Islami. He will be remembered for his role in the expansion and development of the Islamic movement not only in Rajshahi city but also in greater northern region of the country. He played an uncompromised role in the movement against the tyrannical government and also for securing the voting rights. Ataur Rahman led a very simple and ordinary life. He was close to the general masses. He was always with the peoples both in seasons and out of seasons. 

The Jamaat leaders prayed for the deceased leader saying, May Allah forgive and protect our beloved Ataur Rahman. May Allah accept him as the distinguished guest of Janaah and expand his grave. May Allah turn all his sins into pieties. May Allah accept all his noble deeds to bless him with Jannah.

The Jamaat leaders in their condolence message also extended deep sympathy to his mournful families and prayed for them so that they can hold patience in this painful period of time.”
