Acting Ameer Professor Mujibur Rahman and 11 others arrested from Rajshahi

Jamaat-e-Islami declares nationwide peaceful demonstration on Tuesday demanding the release of party leaders

Nayeb-e-Ameer of Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami and former lawmaker Maulana Shamsul Islam and Acting Secretary General of the party Maulana ATM Masum have jointly issued a statement on 12th March, 2018 protesting and condemning the unjustifiable arrest of 11 Jamaat leaders and activists including party’s Acting Ameer and ex-lawmaker Professor Mujibur Rahman from an in-house meeting in Rajshahi.

“The government has been plotting deep conspiracy to wipe out the leadership of Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami and as a part of the same conspiracy; police has arrested 11 Jamaat leaders and activists including party’s Acting Ameer and ex-lawmaker Professor Mujibur Rahman from an in-house meeting in Rajshahi. The Jamaat leaders have become the worst victim of government’s political vengeance. I am vehemently protesting and condemning the incident.

Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami is a legitimate political party. The government has violated country’s law and the constitution by arresting the Jamaat leaders from an in-house organizational program. This incident again proved that, democracy and rule of law does not exist in this country any more. Government is detaining the leaders of Jamaat-e-Islami and 20 party alliances in order to depoliticize the nation. With these ill-initiatives, they are planning to hold a lopsided election for another occasion in a bid to launch fascism. But such ill-attempts can never bring positive consequence. We are calling upon the countrymen to initiate massive resistance against this autocratic government.

We are urging the concerned authorities to release all the detained leaders of Jamaat-e-Islami including party’s Acting Ameer and former lawmaker Professor Mujibur Rahman immediately.

Besides, we are declaring nationwide peaceful demonstration on 13th March, Tuesday demanding the release of all the detained leaders of Jamaat-e-Islami including party’s Acting Ameer and former lawmaker Professor Mujibur Rahman. We are also calling upon all the wings and front organizations of Jamaat-e-Islami and seeking the kind assistances of the countrymen to make the declared programs successful.”
