DNCC election postponed for 3 months; Acting Secretary General terms it as government’s pre-planned conspiracy

Acting Secretary General of Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami, Maulana ATM Masum has issued the following statement on 17th January, 2018 expressing deep concern at the announcement of postponing Dhaka North City Corporation election for 3 months.

“Along with the residents of the Dhaka North city corporation, the countrymen are deeply worried as the election process of Dhaka North City Corporation has been postponed for 3 months. It is a pre-planned conspiracy of the government.

The announcement of postponing DNCC election for 3 months reveals government’s ill-conspiracy. The decision has come up as the government realized that their party nominated candidate would be defeated massively in this election.

Following the court’s order on staying the DNCC election, the Secretary to the Election Commission Secretariat Helaluddin Ahmed stated that there is no bar on holding DNCC election. So naturally question arises in public mind, then why the authority took the decision of postponing the election? Such disparities between talks and tasks proved that this step is nothing but a conspiracy of the government. The election has been postponed to avert the agony of a certain defeat. The countrymen realised once again that fair and credible election is not possible under the authority of the government and its subservient election commission.

Under the circumstances, I am urging the authorities concerned to stop conspiracies and also to declare the election schedule of DNCC election immediately as per the public desire.”
