Acting Ameer urges to accept the justified demands of Ebtedayee Madrasa teachers

Acting Ameer of Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami and former member of the Parliament Professor Mujibur Rahman has issued the following statement on 14th January, 2018 urging the concerned authorities to bring an end to the ongoing indefinite hunger strike of the Edtedayee Madrasa teachers by accepting their justified demands.

“The justified demands of the Independent Ebtedayee Madrasa teachers should be met and their ongoing hunger strikes must be brought to an end. The countrymen are really concerned and worried as the government are remaining completely negligent and indifferent towards them.

The madrasa teachers have been observing hunger strike in front of the national press club for last 6 days in to press their demand of nationalisation of all the registered Ebtedayee madrasas under Bangladesh Madrasa Education Board. Due to starvation and ongoing cold wave, already 154 madrasa teachers fell sick. But the government has taken no initiative so far to bring an end to this crisis. We are shocked at the indifferent attitude of the government. The teachers are the architects of producing capable and efficient citizens of the future. But their present salary is nothing but just inadequate. Like other social and professional individuals, they have every right to lead a life with dignity and honour. Government’s attitude towards them is completely inhuman and unjustified.

Under the circumstances, I am urging the concerned authorities to accept the justified demands of the agitating teachers in order to bring an end to their ongoing hunger strikes.”
