Acting Ameer extends solidarity with the demonstrating Non-MPO listed teachers; urges government to accept their demands

Acting Ameer of Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami and former member of the Parliament Professor Mujibur Rahman has issued the following statement on 30th December, 2017 expressing deep concern as Several hundred teachers under the banner of “Non-MPO Shikhya Pratishthan Shikhyak Karmachari Federation” from across the country are continuing their demonstrations and sit-in programs for five consecutive days demanding enlistment under the government's Monthly Pay Order (MPO) facilities.

“The concerned authority should accept the just and legal demands of the Non-MPO listed academic institution’s teachers. These teachers and staffs have been observing sit-in program in front of the National Press Club for 5 consecutive days. They have declared to start indefinite hunger strike from 31st December if their demands are not met. Along with the countrymen we are also highly concerned with their declaration.

Meanwhile we observed that the protesting teachers have become compelled to take to the street to press their demands. The teachers are the architects of future citizens. So the government and the concerned authority should be careful and attentive to avoid such inhuman situation.

Teachers are playing significant role to build the nation. It is the moral obligation of the government to ensure a convenient atmosphere so that these noble professionals can lead a dignified and prestigious life. But the government is showing indifferent attitude and reluctance about their demands, which is not expected at all.

I am urging the concerned authorities to accept the just demands of the protesting teachers in order to secure convenient academic atmosphere.”
