Jammat holds nationwide discussion and prayer program marking the Victory Day

Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami’s central executive committee member and Dhaka city North Ameer Mohammad Salim Uddin said that the best achievement of our nation is the war of liberation war and its subsequent victory. This achievement did not belong to any particular party, group or individual, but it was the achievement of peoples, irrespective of their religion, race and colour. So there is no alternative but forming broader national unity if we want to sustain this victory and also to materialize the dream of the freedom fighters. He also recalled the contribution of the freedom fighters with due respect and conducted prayer seeking the salvation of the departed souls.

He said this while addressing a discussion program held in an auditorium in the city marking the Victory Day. Among others, Jamaat’s central working committee member and Dhaka city North secretary Dr. Rezaul Karim, Dhaka city North’s working committee member Nazim Uddin Molla, Dhaka city North’s Majlish-e-Shura member Dr. Fakhruddin Manik were present in the occasion.

Salim Uddin further said that, the mass people’s long awaited victory was finally achieved on 16th December, 1971. But to defend independence is tougher than to achieve it. We have long way to go but due to division and compartmentalized politics we could not reach our goal so far.

He said, paying no heed to the mass expectation, the first government had tried to linger its tenure by all means. They seized the freedom of expression and press freedom. Even after 47 years of independence, the nation is experiencing the incidents of human rights violations frequently. The peoples are going through a suffocating atmosphere due to continuous incidents of murder, abduction, anarchy enforced disappearance and extra judicial killings. Political parties are not allowed to exercise their rights to hold assembly and other gatherings. Political leaders are being demonized and humiliated relentlessly. As a part of the government’s oppressive policies, Jamaat Ameer and other senior leaders have been arrested in recent times while they were holding an in-house meeting in the capital. The aged Jamaat leaders are being taken to police remand which is a clear violation of human rights and rule of law. He urged the government to release all the leaders and activists of Jamaat-e-Islami including Ameer-e-Jamaat.

But due to politics of division and difference, we could not achieve the target of independence so far. The prosperous Bangladesh can be build through national consensus only. In this backdrop, he urged to avoid the politics of revenge, jealousy and division and to form a broad base unity instead.

He said the joy of victory is being faded away due to misrule of the government. Country’s sovereignty is at stake due to submissive foreign policy of the government. People’s sufferings know no bounds as the price of essentials have exceeded all the previous records. Press freedom and citizen’s rights are subdued now.
