Veteran Jamaat leaders arrested from Holy Quran tutorial class; Acting Ameer condemns

Acting Ameer of Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami and former member of the Parliament Professor Mujibur Rahman has issued the following statement on 8th December, 2017 protesting and condemning the unjustifiable arrest of 7 leaders and activists of Jamaat-e-Islami including Dhaka district North organizational district Ameer Ekhlas Uddin Khan and regional team member Abul Hashem Khan from a tutorial class of the holy Quran held at Ashulia this morning.

“The police of the Ashulia station have unlawfully arrested 7 leaders and activists of Jamaat-e-Islami including Dhaka district North organizational district Ameer Ekhlas Uddin Khan and regional team member Abul Hashem Khan from a tutorial class of the holy Quran. They have become the victim of government’s political vengeance.

The incumbent government has been arresting the leaders and activists of Jamaat-e-Islami from different places of the country just to weaken party’s organizational structure. The government is creating obstruction in learning the holy Quran by arresting the Jamaat activists from Quran’s tutorial class. What could be more shameful and shocking than this incident! Government’s tyrannical face has been exposed by this unlawful arrest drive.

The nation is eagerly waiting for a free, impartial and credible election under a neutral government. Under such circumstances, instead of creating a congenial atmosphere the government is unnecessarily foiling the situation by detaining Jamaat activists unjustifiably. Ekhlas Uddin Khan and Abul Hashem Khan are aged leaders. Regional team member Abul Hashem Khan has discharged duty as Gazipur district Ameer for almost two decades. He is at his 80 now. Arresting such veterans from Quran tutorial class is not only unjustified but also inhuman initiative.

The government is oppressing the countrymen by confiscating the rights to hold processions, rallies, programs and even Quran learning activities. I am urging my fellow citizens to raise voice against the misrule of the present government.

Finally, I am calling upon the concerned authorities to stop torture and suppression immediately and to release all detained leaders and activists of Jamaat-e-Islami including Dhaka district North organizational district Ameer Ekhlas Uddin Khan and regional team member Abul Hashem Khan immediately.”
