Police arrests female Muslim activists from different places; Rafiqul Islam Khan demands immediate release

Assistant Secretary General of Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami, Maulana Rafiqul Islam Khan has issued the following statement on 20th October, 2017 protesting and condemning the unjustifiable arrest of 21 female activists of Islami Chhatrishangstha from Nurpur of Dhonia under Kodomtoli of the capital on last 18th October and similar inexcusable arrest of two more female activists of the same organization from Kochua Upazila of Chandpur district on last 19th October.

“The government’s fascist character has been exposed once again with the arrest of 21 female activists of Islami Chhatrishangstha from Nurpur of Dhonia under Kodomtoli of the capital and similar arrest of two more female activists from Chandpur district’s Kochua Upazila.

The members and activists of Islami Chhatrishangstha are preaching Islamic sermons among the female students of the country. They also inspire the students to obtain more knowledge about Islam and also to boost up their characters according to the spirit of Islam. By arresting these innocent female activists, the government has violated the fundamental rights of these students. In addition, the government has violated human rights by putting all the students arrested from Dhaka, into one day police remand.

The government has arrested them for their commission of Islamic preaching and thus proved that they don’t want Islamic activities to be continued in this country. By creating obstruction to such noble deeds, the government wants to push the communities of female students towards immoral practices and darkness. I am urging the countrymen to raise their voice against such unforgivable arrests of the decent and modest female students and the ongoing harassment against them.

Finally, I am calling upon the concerned authorities to release all the female activists of Islami Chhatrishangstha, who have been arrested from Dhonia of Dhaka city and Kochua of the Chandpur district immediately.”
