Assistant Secretary General of Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami, Maulana Rafiqul Islam Khan has issued the following statement on 19th October, 2017 protesting and condemning the unjust arrest of Sirajganj district’s Ullapara Upazila Ameer and Ullapara Upazila Vice Chairman Professor Shahjahan Ali.

“The government has unjustifiably arrested Sirajganj district’s Ullapara Upazila Ameer and Ullapara Upazila Vice Chairman Professor Shahjahan Ali from the meeting of the Upazila council as they became afraid of his popularity.

Professor Shahjahan Ali is an honest and popular leader. The government has detained him just to deprive local peoples from getting his service. He has been harassed for so many days so that he can’t take part in the Upazila council meeting. Even the elected public representatives are not spared from the torture and repression of the incumbent government. These incidents are exposing the autocratic face of the government.

I am urging the concerned authorities to stop oppression and to release him immediately.
