Prices of all essentials have increased alarmingly; Acting Ameer urges government to take effective measures

Acting Ameer of Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami and former member of the Parliament Professor Mujibur Rahman has issued the following statement on 18th October, 2017 expressing deep concern as the price of the essential commodities including rice, lentils, oil, salt, fishes, meats, spices and vegetables have increased alarmingly in recent times.

“I am expressing deep concern as the price of the essential commodities including rice, lentils, oil, salt, fishes, meats, spices and vegetables have increased alarmingly. Due to such abnormal price hike, the low and fixed income peoples are facing unbearable sufferings.

Right now, thick rice is being sold at 50 taka per kilogram while the thin one is being sold at 60-70 taka per kilo. Lentils per kilogram is available at 130 taka, other types of lentils are also being sold at high prices. Edible oil is being sold at 106 per litre. Even salt per kilogram is being sold at 40/42 taka. Keeping pace with these items, fishes, meats, vegetables and spices are being sold at high price as well. Though the government is expertise on sayings but practically they have miserably failed to curb the price hike of the essentials. The government is also claiming of reducing the rice price but it is not reflected in the market, rather price of rice have been increased massively.

The working class peoples, labours and the low income people have become the worst victim of price hike. The poor people even cannot eat properly twice in a day. The government is not paying any heed to this crisis. Instead of minimizing the mass sufferings, they are plotting conspiracies to stay in power forcefully. The incumbent government is not an elected. This is why they do not feel any liabilities towards the people. At the same time, they are not taking any effective steps to lessen the distresses of the general masses.

I am urging the authorities concerned to take some immediate effective measures to tackle the price hike of the essential commodities and also to bring the price of necessary items within the common’s reach.”
