Pressure for withdrawing case against the policemen in Jamaat leader murder incident

Police attacked the plaintiff’s house for second time; Mia Ghulam Parwar condemns

Satkhira district’s Kolaroa Upazila’s Baksha Hothatganj Dakhil Madrasa’s Super Maulana Saidur Rahman was allegedly beaten to death by the policemen several days back. Later, the elder brother of the victim Bazlur Rahman lodged a case against the police members who were involved with this incident. As a reaction of filing such a case, the local police along with some ruling party hooligans attacked, vandalized and looted the houses of the plaintiff Bazlur Rahman and his relative Abdul Hannan for second consecutive time. Nayeb-e-Ameer of Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami and former member of the Parliament Professor Mia Ghulam Parwar has issued the following statement on 7th October, 2017 protesting and condemning such barbarous attack of the police force.

“Police along with the ruling party cadres have attacked and vandalised the house of Bazlur Rahman for second time, who have lodged the case against some policemen accusing of murdering his brother. Police also attacked the house of his relative Abdul Hannan and sent his son Al Mamun and two other youths namely Siddiqur Rahman and Mawla Box to the jail in connection with a false case. Police also threatened to murder Bazlur Rahman and his family members, if they deny withdrawing the case. We have no word to condemn such brutal acts. This incident once again proved that there no rule of law, human rights and democracy in the country right now.

Police for the second time attacked the house of Bazlur Rahman, the plaintiff of the case at 3.30 am on 5th October. They also attacked his relative Abdul Hannan’s house as well. They beat Mr. Abdul Hannan’s wife and detained their son Al Mamun. They demanded Taka one lac for his release. But as the policemen did not get the money so that further arrested two more youths namely Siddiqur Rahman and Mawla Box and sent them to jail. The police also threatened to murder the entire family of Bazlur Rahman if they do not withdraw the case immediately. Earlier, the policemen and the ruling party cadres had attacked the house of Bazlur Rahman on 22nd September. Such a heinous act can never be imagined in a civilized and democratic country. If the member of the police force commits such terror acts, then to whom general masses would seek safety or how they will live in this country.

I am urging the concerned authorities to conduct a judicial investigation into the murder of Maulana Saidur Rahman and to bring all the involved personnel to the book to ensure their exemplary punishment. I am also calling upon the authorities to ensure due safety and security of Mr. Bazlur Rahman and his family.”
