Demands UN supervised inquiry commission to probe genocide against Rohingya

Secretary General criticizes Myanmar government for it’s deceptive decision to implement Kofi Annan Commission’s recommendations

Secretary General of Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami, Dr. Shafiqur Rahman has issued the following statement on 14th September, 2017 condemning the Myanmar government’s announcement to form a committee to materialize the recommendations of the former UN Secretary General Kofi Annan Commission.

“I am condemning the announcement of the Myanmar government to form a committee to materialize the recommendations of the former UN Secretary General Kofi Annan Commission. The government of Myanmar has made such fraudulent and deceptive announcement of forming committee for implementing Kofi Annan Commission just to divert the attention of the world community as they are facing severe reaction worldwide for their inhuman mass killing drive against the Rohingya Muslims.

After deporting around 0.4 million Rohingya Muslims from their own land by conducting brutal genocide, rape and arson against them, now the government is making farce with the deplorable community by making an insidious decision of implementing Kofi Annan Commission recommendations. All the global forums including the United Nations and prominent human rights watchdogs have raised voices against the ongoing genocide of the Myanmar forces against the Rohingya Muslims. Under this circumstance, such an announcement is nothing but a political trick of the Myanmar government to avoid the real crisis.

We are calling for an UN supervised international inquiry commission to probe into the incidents of deporting millions of Rohingya Muslims through the process of genocide, arson and rape. I am urging the United Nations and all other global platforms to take effective measures to stop the brutal genocide against the Rohingya peoples and also to restore their citizenships and to pay them proper compensation for smooth rehabilitations.

Besides, I am urging the United Nations to undertake initiatives to try and prosecute all the military and civil personnel who have committed crimes against humanity by conducting genocide against the Rohingya Muslims of Myanmar.”
